how to pick a diet plan- can healthy food choices lower your risk of developing diabetes or its complications?

Now for most people like you, how to pick a diet plan if you are not feeling well, you think that a visit to the doctor can really diagnose and fix the problem. Simple, I am sure it is right. But, let me tell you that some diseases can be silent predators, and they really offer few or no warning signs so that you can be alert on the help that is needed.

However one such disease I can say is diabetes. Not only does diabetes affect 24 million people in the United States, but 25 percent really don’t know that they are having it. Now you might ask me what diabetes is. Let me explain you in the following paragraphs.

When you eat, as food is digested, it is broken down into glucose also known as sugar, which provides energy and power to our cells. Now insulin which is basically a hormone made in the pancreas, moves the glucose from your blood to the cells of your body.

Again, if there is no insulin or enough insulin or if the insulin is not really working properly, then let me tell you the glucose stays in your blood and this causes your blood sugar levels to rise. Let me inform you that there are three main types of diabetes, type1, type2 and gestational diabetes.

Let’s discuss them one by one, type 1 results if your panaceas is no longer able to make insulin and this occurs usually in children, teens and in general young adults. In general gestational diabetes can or might occur near the end of a woman’s pregnancy and usually disappears after the birth of the baby.

In general the most common form of diabetes is type2. Risk factors of type 2 diabetes are being overweight, if you are not getting really enough physical activity, if you are having a parent or sibling with diabetes.

Again  if you are an African- American, Asian- American, Latino, native American or pacific islander or a woman who really had gestational diabetes or had given birth to a baby who waited more than nine pounds, having high blood pressure, again having low HDL or good cholesterol with high triglycerides or if you are really having pre- diabetes.
