Let me inform you that fat loss plateaus always happen
when you start to experience progress in your fitness routine. Usually it happens
something like this, you choose to work on eating healthier. You avoid pizza
for fat burning fruits, nuts and
seeds.
You should stay away
from sweets for fruits and yogurt. You eat more broccoli and leafy greens. You
eat less browns and root beer floats; you stop drinking booze and drink more
water. You start working your new fat loss contraction, and just like your
doctor told you start to do cardio exercise.
You will surely find some activity that keeps your
heart at a target rate for a half hour three times a week. Maybe you talk to
the gyms training staff and do some work out on the equipments. If you are like
most, you start to feel better.
You will notice your clothes are less tight and you
will have a little more energy. Soon you will see the needle on the scale go
down. Now the fun ends and no more loss of weight. Maybe you actually gain a
few pounds, and it seems that nothing you do actually helps you get closer to
your goal.
There are few explanations why you experience
plateaus and some ways to overcome it. Now you have reached a point of
overtraining and diminishing returns. Your body’s ability to adjust to a new
routine diminishes over time.
At some point your body needs time to recover and if
you don’t give the body enough opportunity, your metabolic rate drops to
recover. So take a few days off of your workout routine and try low intensity
exercise. Ease off on the diet and sometimes your metabolism needs time to
adjust.
Yes, your routine is lacking variety; your body is
an adaptive system. Eventually your body will adjust to your new routine and
your metabolic rate will lower to accommodate the changes in your routine. Let
me share with you a personal experience.
I used to live and work in the same neighborhood, I
remember this man early 40s overweight about 350 lbs. he would walk or jog to
get exercise. To think it was more like a shuffle. In seven years, I never saw
him lose any fat.
Almost every day, I would see him soaked with seat.
Moving just faster than a walking pace, he never lost any weight. This happened
because he never adjusted his routine. So make sure that you vary your fitness
routine.
Try new exercises, and always look for new
activities to challenge your body. Never let it adapt and then every two to three
months, give yourself a week off for low intensity activities. Make sure that
you mix up your eating habits.
If you are eating 2000 calories a day, eat 2200 calorie one day and 1800 calories the next. If you are eating three meals, eat less for your meals and eat more snacks.
