diabetes mellitus- can diabetes put millions at risk for blindness?
Let me remind you that unexpected sight loss is more
common that one may think. I am telling you because blindness often happens
without prior warning signs and in general people are unaware that they are at diabetes mellitus risk.
The two most common culprits of blindness and
unexpected sight loss are diabetes and glaucoma. In general these diseases are
known as the sneak thieves of sight since the symptoms may not occur in the
early stage.
Therefore by the time a person realizes something is
wrong, irreversible vision loss might often occur. Let me show you a startling
statistics, in fact, diabetes eye disease is the leading cause of blindness in
adults in general.
So on an average of 55 Americans go blind from the
disease of diabetes every day. Again the number of patients threatens to rise
sharply as diabetes becomes increasingly common due to poor eating habits,
infrequent exercise along with an aging population.
Thus at the end of the day one in three children
born in united states five years ago are expected to become diabetic during
their lives. I am saying this because diabetes causes partial or complete loss
of vision in as many as 70% or those who have it. Yet 30% of all people who have
diabetes doesn’t even know they have it.
Let me warn you that even people who know they have
diabetes downplay the risks they face. According to a recent survey 60% are not
worried about going blind or losing a limb. In reality, 74% of diabetics will
in the coming days develop serious complications that could lead to loss of
sight or a limb or kidney failure.
Glaucoma, on the other hand is a group of eye
diseases that slowly damage the fine nerves what connect the eye to the brain.
For most people, this damage occurs when pressure in the eye is too high. So
when these nerves are damaged, in general vision loss may result.
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in
the United States. However like diabetes, not enough people know about it. Let
me inform you that an estimated 4.2 million Americans have glaucoma but half
are not aware of it.
Diabetes and glaucoma are especially prevalent among
blacks and Hispanics. These groups are believed to have genetic predisposition
to the disease and are much more at risk than Caucasians. Again others
particularly at risk for glaucoma are people over 60, those with a family
history of glaucoma, diabetics and the very near sighted.
I have good news for you, and the good news for
those at risk is that a dilated eye exam can detect the two diseases and early
treatment can prevent vision loss. Vision experts urge at risk people to have
regular eye exams.
Let me again remind you that raising awareness of
diabetic eye disease and glaucoma is the key to prevent unnecessary blindness.
I am here to publicize the need of early detection and timely treatment of the
two diseases. I am offering strategies for raising awareness of the eye
diseases.
Now all you
need to do is to make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your
weight and your blood sugar levels. Since we are human beings so walking
upright comes naturally to us and this really makes us healthy.
I am sure you are aware of the fact that walking
requires no special equipment, gym or trainer can be performed alone. Thus at
the end of the day you have to plan your physical activity program and for that
you need to talk it over with your doctor.
Again if walking and running every day sounds really
daunting to you then you really need to start gradually and work up to it.
However if the weather is not conducive to walking you can very well try and
visit an air conditioned and heated shopping mall.
Yes ,I can very well understand that managing your
diabetes cans very challenging since this disease is not a condition you must
just live with. Now all I am telling you is that all you need to do is to make
simple changes to your daily routine to lower both your blood sugar level and
weight.
Again if you want a permanent cure from diabetes
then you must have to lose weight and lower your blood sugar. In my opinion
changing what you eat regularly is the best and safest method ever devised to
control blood sugar and diabetes.
At the end of the day your healthy eating plain is
important since its vital to take a good look at what you are putting into your
body. All your need to do is to make smarter choices and only then you will
find your blood sugar more stable and you will surely lose weight.
I am sure you are aware of the fact that Americans
in general are getting fat and fatter and this is direct result of the
environment that we are living in. in general the car culture has developed
everywhere and for that reason we drive and sit everywhere we go.
Therefore these days nobody walks anywhere neither
they ride their bicycles. All people do is just drive and this car culture is
coupled with processed food along with fast foods that we eat all contribute to
the fat culture.
I have personally seen that urban living has lead to
dramatic decrease in physical activity. Along with that development of the food
industry provides with an enormous tasty and energy dense food which is
available 24x7.
Thus at the end of the day we are eating more and
exercising les and we surely need to reverse this trend. I am warning you again
this will surely lead to death by diabetes and heart attacks and we know that
fast and processed food and sedentary lifestyle causes diabetes and heart
attacks that are killing so many Americans.
Now the answer to this diabetes mellitus problem is reversing this trend of food and exercise. Again if we know what causes these diseases we can just reverse that process? If you feel the fast and processed foods are killing us then try to get rid of them in your diet. I know this is much easier said than done. However if you are still dreaming to cure yourself from diabetes then stop procrastinating and click here.
