In
general Tendonitis is a term describing the pathology of the muscle tendon
characterized by an inflammatory process in the tendon which can also be
accompanied by degeneration or disruption of the tendon fibers. Another common
tendinopathy tennis elbow
exercise is the one called
tendinitis which manifests mostly with the tendon degeneration without the
existence or with minimal existence of the inflammation in the tissues.
These
terms in general are commonly used and mistaken for each other but in fact
chronic inflammatory conditions in the tendons are not that common in
comparison with degenerative types. Degeneration of the tendons can be caused
by several different factors.
Now
for sure, most degenerative process occur as a result of ageing process as with
aging tendons begin to lose their elasticity and more prone to micro traumas.
Another main reason is the over use or overload on the tendons.
Fatigue
ruptures of the tendon fibers are the main cause of tendon degeneration and
tendinitis especially for the young active patients. In reality overuse or
overload ruptures of the tendons can be caused by lack of arm up session before
activity, training errors and training transition risks like increase of
training, change of equipment or training surface.
Again
anatomical or postural abnormalities like flat foot can contribute to Achilles
tendinopathy. Decreased nutrition, hormonal changes and poor local circulation
can cause over use tendon pain or tendinitis. It can also be cause due to pain
after exercise and the pain can disappear after warming up.
In
common athletes are able to continue the training in the early stages of the
condition but it may interfere with the healing process like local tenderness
and thickening of the tendon on examination. Now swelling and crepitus may be
present and the most commonly treated tendinopathies in the physiotherapy
clinics are Achilles tendon, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, Rotators cuff injury
and patellar tendinopathy.
Now
treatment of tendonitis consists of training risks modification, soft tissue
treatment including deep friction cross tendon massage or soft tissue releasing
techniques. Acupuncture or electro acupuncture, therapeutic ultrasound,
stretching and strengthening exercises are also treatment of tendonitis.
Now
as we know that, prevention is better than cure so it is also easy to prevent
these conditions rather than treating these conditions. There are simple
modification that can prevent tendinitis and tendinitis. Strengthen of the
muscles which are prone to injury due to over use or repetitive activity which
will decrease the excessive stress on the tendons and joints.
Treatment also includes tennis elbow
exercise
proper warm up and stretching exercises prior engaging in physical activity
