quick weight loss-how to lose 10 pounds right here and right now?
Let me remind you that losing weight is not rocket
science. Basically it requires no special diet, no special foods and no special
exercise program. All we need at the end of the day is quick weight loss eat less calories than we burn.
However despite this, as well as en ever growing
number of diets and weight control plans, obesity continues to grow. Now the
vast majority of dieters find it almost impossible to lose weight without
regaining everything within a matter of months.
Now you would ask me why this happens. My answer is
that we don’t get enough support. In reality our greatest need when dieting is
encouragement. We need people to cheer our successes and help us overcome our
disasters.
Amazingly, most online weight loss programs fail to
address this need. Instead they focus on what we should eat, how many calories
we should consume, and what exercise we should take. Yes, this advice is
useful, but it’s not critical.
This is because most of us know this stuff already.
What we have difficulty with, is motivation. We know what to do in order to lose
weight, but we can’t sustain it. May be we lack a strong incentive, or perhaps
our family situation interferes with our weight loss plans, or maybe we hate
cooking and often eat our too often.
Whatever difficulty we have, it’s not likely to
involve food or exercise. It’s much more likely to be a motivational or
lifestyle problem. This is why I say most online program don’t offer
motivational or lifestyle support.
Now the value of proper support was highlighted in
recent survey of members a popular online weight loss program. The program
included a 24x7 community forum specializing in motivation and lifestyle
support with several thousand topics wand approximately 100,000 posts.
Subjects were asked to assess the personal benefit
they obtained from the forum. A total of 1348 subjects responded of whom 81
percent rated the programs community forum as important or very important in
helping them to lose weight, while less than 5 percent said that it really made
no difference.
While in no way conclusive, the results indicate the
practical value of a community approach to weight management. In my opinion for
urban dieters, weight watchers are probably the best option. Their meetings are
specially designed to help dieters to overcome difficulties, but even weight watchers
have its limitations.
First it’s not really cheap to join. Secondly, members
typically only once a week. So of your diet wagon loses wheel on Saturday night
you may have to wait several days for the next meeting to help you out. However
they also offer an online service but at something like $250-300 a years, which
is really not cheap.
Again even when they do, their advice can often be
expensive and quite uninspiring. I am sure you long for firmer muscles and
smaller waist. Do you think you can’t lose weight? Yes, you can. But the truth
is you can’t lose weight without a diet- a plan.
Weight loss experts and diet plan authors all agree
that much of our excess weight comes from the carbohydrates we eat, especially
the highly refined or processed ones such as potatoes, baked goods, bread,
pasta and other convenient foods.
To aggravate the problem, few of us get enough
exercise to ward off excess pounds. The basic science behind the low curb diet
is to limit the consumption of foods with a lot of carbohydrates. The low curb
diet includes most popular weight loss programs such as the Atkins, south
beach, zone and carbohydrate addict diet.
One of the food groups which the body needs to
survive are carbohydrates. Carbohydrates also referred to as curbs come in two
types- sugar and starches. Sugar is simple curbs usually sweet tasting biscuits
and sweets and is easily digested.
Whereas, starches are complex curbs found in bread,
pasta, noodles and rice and take longer to digest. The body transforms all these
digestible carbs into glucose, the sugar that our cells use as fuel or energy.
When glucose molecules pass from intestine into the blood stream, the pancreas
releases insulin, a hormone that mobilizes cells to absorb it.
Muscle, fat and other cells then absorb the excess
glucose from the blood and insulin levels return to normal. After a meal high
in glycolic index which is basically ranking of foods according to how fast
their sugars are released into the blood stream, blood sugar levels rise higher
and rapidly.
The insulin needed to fill all that sugar into
muscles and fat cells also weaken the activity of glucagon, a hormone that
signals the body to burn stored fuel when blood sugar levels fall below a
certain point. Glucose level drops so low leaving the body starved for energy.
The brain and intestine then send out hunger
signals. New cravings are created requiring more curb intake. We, then overeat
that leads to more fat, rise in blood insulin lever, more hunger, and more
weight gain and the cycle goes on.
On the contrary, adhering to a low curb diet puts an
end to this cycle. Reduced carbohydrates would mean decreased insulin level,
increased glucagon level, weight loss, improved triglycerides which are fats
carried in the blood which are necessary but when excessive cause coronary
damage, decrease in LDL which is bad cholesterol and increase in HDL which is
basically good cholesterol.
Therefore the bottom line is give refined or
processes carbohydrates which cause rapid changes in blood sugar, trigger
hunger, thereby encouraging overeating that ultimately leads to obesity smaller
spots on your plate.
Anyway, nobody ever died from skipping potatoes,
pasta, rice and white bread. Now that said and done, go get yourself a few good
